Stop Turning Your Best Salespeople Into Your Best-Paid Admins with AI

Throughout my career, I’ve implemented more sales methodologies than I can count—Target Account Selling, Solution Selling, Challenger, MEDDIC… you name it.
Different flavors, same goal: help sales teams structure what they learn, qualify real intent, and drive meaningful next steps to win deals.
In short, empower reps to make better decisions. But here’s the paradox.
To keep managers, presales, product, and CS informed, we ask sales reps to manually document everything they discover – CRM fields, contacts, super-sized spreadsheets, slides, meeting notes, next steps… sometimes all of them at once.
And unsurprisingly, reps hate it.
Salesforce published research in 2023 shows sellers spend up to 72% of their time on non-selling tasks. Which sounded exaggerated to me but when you take a closer look it makes sense.

I am sure you heard reps say, “Why update the CRM with things I already know? It doesn’t help me sell any faster.” or “I am your best paid admin”
Is that entirely true? Not really, because everyone downstream does benefit:
- Presales need context to run successful POCs.
- Product teams learn which use cases matter.
- Marketing gets real-world stories and messaging input.
- CSMs understand why the customer bought and what they expect.
- Sales leaders need accurate forecasts and risk visibility.
But the truth is—we’ve historically had no way around burdening the rep with the admin work. They were the only ones with access to the calls, emails, notes, signals, and insights that needed to be captured.
Then GenAI happened And suddenly, the game changed.
Suddenly, AI could learn, reason, and write with the clarity of a human and the speed of a system.
AI in Sales: The New Secret Weapon for Sales Productivity
With tools like Sales AI we are able to capture information from your CRMs, conversations, emails, consolidate them around the Accounts, People and Opportunities and merge it back into the CRM.
With data, and signals across the entire account team, we can now:
Build a richer, multi-angle picture of every deal
Instead of relying on one rep’s memory or notes, AI can combine perspectives of conversations from all parties like presales, Customer success, marketing, partners, and product.
Different roles see different pains, risks, and opportunities and AI merges them into the full story.

What It Means for Each Team
Direct Access to information without having to sit on hour long forecast or big deal coordination calls. No more pushing the reps to get a report on use cases, business drivers or competitive activities.
Sales Leaders
I was asked recently whether AI would change sales management. My answer: absolutely.
Traditional ratios of 1 manager per 5-6 reps could shift to 1:10 or even 1:12.
Why?
Because deal reviews become less about reps updating managers, and more about strategic thinking and next-step design.
Forecast calls become faster, cleaner, more fact-based, and—most importantly—focused on deal acceleration.
Customer Success
Seamless handovers.
No more chasing reps for context months after signature.
CSMs inherit full visibility into qualification, personas, activities, and success metrics.
Sales Engineers
Preparing for deep dives or POCs becomes dramatically easier.
AI can validate readiness, highlight missing criteria, and streamline discovery so SEs enter every engagement fully armed.
Sales Operations
Imagine generating a tailored, real-time executive report of the top deals updated automatically.
Even the CEO can pull the latest insights before a board meeting, without waiting on slide decks.
Product & Marketing
No more relying on anecdotal feedback. AI aggregates use cases, objections, personas, themes and business drivers directly from the field.
Will AI Replace Salespeople?
The million-dollar question.
For simple transactional tasks license requests, basic demos, renewals, small expansions – AI will handle a large portion.
But complex B2B sales? No.
Enterprise customers still buy from people they trust, especially when deals require consensus, strategy, and value alignment.
What AI will do is remove the admin burden, consolidate information, surface insights, and propose next steps – so reps can spend more time selling and building relationships.
And there is the fact of hallucination and inaccuracy. Although new GenAI models can reduce them to a bare minimum, we will still want to depend on human beings to cross-check and approve facts before they’re inserted into the CRMs, reports or other decision-making platforms.
Final Thought
AI is not here to replace enterprise sales teams.
In fact it will empower them – helping them master information, make fact-based decisions, and focus on their time where it matters most: with customers.
It also gives management and sales-support teams real-time visibility into deal data, enabling sharper coaching, smarter engagement, and more predictable outcomes.
